Training Design
What We Do and How We Do It
Research-Based Training Design
To develop a comprehensive program that hones the craft of teaching, we began by studying the most accomplished teachers in the country. After a series of interviews followed by analysis of our findings, we identified how these expert teachers communicated, transferred knowledge, and helped learners to internalize skills.
Though each of these educators was uniquely talented, we discovered that they all used similar skills and performance patterns. We identified these highly-effective skills and strategies and organized them into our core programs offered as graduate courses, professional staff development services, online courses, and educational products.
Skills and Performance Patterns
Below is a brief sample of some of the skills and performance patterns we teach in our programs:
Skills:
- Presenting compelling why’s
- Using the confirmatory paraphrase
- Summarizing
- Goal setting
- Reading nonverbals and responding with appropriate nonverbals
Performance Patterns:
- Debriefing skills
- Questioning skills
- Communication skills
- The “problem-return” technique
Highest Standards
Each program is intensely researched, carefully designed, scrutinized, critiqued, and thoroughly field-tested to ensure its effectiveness. To ensure the highest standards, our programs are meticulously evaluated and modified to be consistent with the latest educational research. We make sure that every skill and strategy included in every PLS training program is affirmed by this extensive research.
We don't stop there; we continually revise our courses to make sure they meet the challenges and needs of today’s classrooms, students, and teachers.
