My Favorite Teaching Moment

What I find I like most about teaching is my Title 1 students saying that they can’t wait to come to reading class because of all the neat projects and activities that we do. I am very motivated by analyzing the data on the student’s strengths and weaknesses and then devising a plan that reaches their learning style. Having activities and projects that are engaging and fun makes the road to reading success manageable for these students.

One particular instance does come to mind. A student that was having reading difficulties recently got very involved in a project from the book, The Mask Makers by Veronica Freeman Ellis. After reading the story and discussing the customs of the people in Monrovia, Liberia, the student was able to construct a mask based on his family customs. The student was so excited that he blurted out that he really now understood the story.

Why I Love Teaching PLS Courses

I love to be able to provide new and seasoned teachers the skills and performance patterns to go back in their classrooms and become better educators. The PLS courses give educators more tools for their tool boxes to diversify their instruction. It is motivating to hear teachers say that they can’t wait to go back to their classrooms and use the strategies. One of my greatest joys is to inspire teachers to have a more profound influence on the next generation.
