My Favorite Teaching Moment
I love the "Ah-ha" moments that often occur in a first grade classroom. The look on their little faces when they finally "get it" is truly priceless. Those moments are what drive me to try to reach each of my students in some way every day.
My favorite moment in teaching occurred with one of my Learning Support students that was in Kindergarten at the time. It was November and I had worked with her since the beginning of the school year to write her name. She had physical and mental disabilities, so writing a nine letter first name was difficult for her. She was finally able to write her entire name on paper, so I encouraged her to write in on the board as large as she could. Her father happened to be giving a presentation to the third grade students and he stopped in my classroom. He was moved to tears when he saw his little girl write her name for the first time. It was at that moment that I realized the impact that I could have on my students.
Why I Love Teaching PLS Courses
I love teaching online PLS courses because of the opportunity to learn with educators across the country. Even though I am facilitating the course, I always walk away with new ideas to use in my classroom. I love sharing the practical, research based concepts that are the basis of the PLS courses. Based on the knowledge that they gain through the courses that I facilitate, I am confident that the participants will find ways to make small changes that yield big results in their classrooms. Online learning makes learning an ongoing process. All those involved in the course can work at their own pace, on their own time. If an idea comes to them in the middle of the night, they can log on and share their thoughts. Our online classroom "door" never closes!
