My Favorite Teaching Moment
I enjoy helping people learn useful material—things that will really improve their lives. I tell my high-school students that the things they learn in FACS class are facts that they will use no matter what they do with the rest of their lives. I feel the same way about the PLS classes I’ve both taught and participated in as a student. The courses have so much information that can be used on a daily basis in the classroom. I recently had the pleasure of running into a former student, now in college, who introduced me to his girlfriend. She immediately knew who I was and told me how they were using information from my class in their daily lives. She said she wished that her school had a mandatory ninth-grade FACS class because the facts from my class were so helpful. I was so pleased that my student remembered them, and me, so many years later.
Why I Love Teaching PLS Courses
I teach online classes and I think the asynchronous model is wonderful. Everyone participates and has the opportunity to have their voice heard. Students learn so much from reading each other’s postings and responses.
