My Favorite Teaching Moment

I am a life-long learner myself so I really enjoy helping educators to gain new knowledge and practical skills to use in their classroom for the purpose of improving student achievement.

I would have to take you far back into my career when I taught preschool special needs students. I had a multi-disabled class with a wide variety of learners. My class was composed of students who functioned in the moderate range of cognitive disabilities, mild disabilities, significant development delays, and speech-language impairments. I was conducting a circle time activity on numeracy. One student was asked to attend to an object presented while I guided his hand to the items speaking the word "one". Some students were asked to rote count. One little girl counted to 5. Another child counted to 10. Then I came to my student with a speech impairment (let's call him Tony). I asked Tony to count. He counted to 5. Now, Tony was a very smart young man. He could count to 100 so I said to him, "Now Tony you need to count higher." Tony proceeded to count to 5 in this falsetto voice. My paraprofessional and I practically fell out of our chairs.

Why I Love Teaching PLS Courses

I enjoy teaching PLS courses because I find the courses to be well-written and practical to the education profession. I have only been with PLS a short time, but I also have found that the entire staff are so supportive and helpful. I always know that someone will quickly address any issues I might have encountered.
