Learning Styles Professional Development

A five-hour online professional development module teaching ways to immediately apply learning styles to your classroom. This course contains:

The Kaleidoscope Profile, a learning styles inventory .
• A repertoire of multisensory activities and strategies you can use immediately in the classroom.
• A lesson planning form for designing multisensory lessons.
• A variety of useful resources, including a printable Learner’s Guide.

Summary of Learning Styles for Educators

Learning styles are the ways we take in, process, and remember new information. When you know your students’ learning styles, you can help them learn in ways that are easiest for them. This five-hour course consists of four “workshops,” each containing several steps.

Workshop One: The Kaleidoscope Profile in Depth

Introduction (5 minutes) —Become familiar with the three styles measured by The Kaleidoscope Profile.

Step 1: The Kaleidoscope Profile (25 minutes) — Complete the profile and find out your personal learning styles .

Step 2: Learning Styles and Teaching (25 minutes) — Explore how your learning styles relate to your teaching styles.

Workshop Two: Sensory Styles

Introduction (10 minutes) — Learn the benefits of using multisensory techniques in your classroom.

Step 1: Learning Strategies (25 minutes) — Learn the strategies that best suit different sensory styles.

Step 2: Challenges in Learning (25 minutes) — Practice meeting challenging classroom situations using multisensory strategies.

Step 3: Multisensory Lesson Planning (30 minutes) — Design a lesson, unit, or learning center using multisensory strategies.

Workshop Three: Perceptual and Organizational Styles

Introduction (10 minutes) — Understand the characteristics of two perceptual and two organizational styles.

Step 1: Learning Strategies (20 minutes) — Learn the strategies that best suit different perceptual and organizational styles (Global, Abstract, Sequential, Concrete).

Step 2: Challenges in Learning (25 minutes) — Practice meeting challenging learning situations using strategies for various perceptual and organizational styles.

Step 3: GASC Lesson Planning (30 minutes) — Design a lesson using a variety of perceptual and organizational strategies.

Workshop Four: Personality Styles

Introduction (10 minutes) — Learn the characteristics of four distinct personality types.

Step 1: Learning Strategies (20 minutes) — Explore the learning strategies favored by each different personality type.

Step 2: Challenges in Learning (25 minutes) — Find ways to meet common challenges in the classroom by applying your understanding of personality styles.

Step 3: Personality Styles Lesson Planning (30 minutes) — Plan a lesson that incorporates learning strategies of each personality style.
